UPDATE JUNE 2025 (7 months from original post) A BREAKFAST CLUB’S CHOICE, CERTAINLY AMONG THE TOP FIVE DESAYUNOS in Cuenca. It’s consistently outstanding breakfasts. The OMELETTE WITH CHICKEN SAUSAGE is outstanding. Being a traveler, it rivals any omelette in the world. *** The chicken sausage is homemade, WITHOUT THE NITRATES. A classic American sausage patty, chopped and filled in the omelette. Mixed with sautéed red and orange pimentos, and caramelized onions. Topped with fresh white cheese….WOW! The CROQUE MADAME is a ham sandwich and eggs Benedict with lovely gravy instead of hollandaise…. Hint of New Orleans breakfast … WOW! DESAYUNO AMERICANO, a “lighter” version of the big American BF served with their signature homemade chicken sausage patty….YUM! All BF come with PERFECTLY COOKED HASH BROWNS, crispy exterior with soft almost spongy interior. ⭐⭐⭐ They also have fresh baked Sourdough loaf and lovely **bagel-rolls**…UNUSUALLY LARGE SIZES AND RATHER SAVORY… ** Clarification: ** Their “bagels” are really Bagel-rolls, baked bread rolls, though good tasting ARE NOT REAL BAGELS. Real bagels are boiled then baked, giving a slight hard crust with spongy and lightly chewy interior. SERVICE IS OUTSTANDING. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED… ====== ORIGINAL REVIEW: It is unclear what constitutes brunch is or even “Sunday brunch” at this place! …. But this is an OUTSTANDING SIMPLE BUT SUBSTANTIAL BREAKFAST . This is a rather nondescript eatery, without any large sign of this place…. Its reputation seems to be by word of mouth. And that word of mouth is indeed accurate!!! The Tigrillo, a uniquely Ecuadorian BF is SUPERB…. The green plantain mash is seasoned exquisitely well and VERY FLAVORFUL. *** The added small portion of beef stew, tender and flavorful by itself, fortifies the Tigrillo. *** Then the yolk of Sunny Side Up egg marries the whole assemblage together… WOW Huevos Rancheros::: It’s not quite the TexMex kind, but BETTER/UPLIFTED version. ***Flavorful fresh corn tortilla topped with sautéed onions, tomatoes and black beans. *** the eggs simply served fried whole rather than scrambled, and then a rather light sprinkling of grated cheese . With a spoonful of the medley…The flavors and textures are just so lovely ***Served with avocados. Coffee is freshly made. Service is very good.

Had the most fabulous apple pie last week, so went back for breakfast today. Delicious chicken sausage omelet, free refills on coffee. The hashbrowns are awesome. The chicken-fried steak special was amazing! Evoked memories of having that at Jack's diner in Chico, CA, 30 years ago.

10/10! Excellent food and service, everything they make is so delicious. And they also make frozen food for delivery or pick up. You won’t be disappointed!

Great breakfast. I had pancakes and eggs, my wife had huevos rancheros. Both excellent! They had a picture of their hamburger dish, it looked great so a return for lunch is in our plans.

Wow. The food is so good here! We came for breakfast and i had an amazing omelette, hash browns and crispy, buttery sourdough toast. Everything was fresh and my friends ate every bite of their food. The service is super attentive and it’s a wonderful place with natural light to have nice conversations with friends. Prices are very reasonable for the size and quality of the food. I am going to make this a regular thing on Sundays.

A little surprise, because it doesn’t look so inviting from the outside, but good and service are amazing. Worthwhile to stop for breakfast or lunch.

Off the beaten path but definitely worth checking out. It offers the taste of home that many gringos miss. As a southerner I was impressed with the biscuits and gravy on my first visit. On the second visit I had the chicken fried steak served over mashed potatoes and smothered with that delicious gravy and green beans. The owner is super nice and offers many of his dishes frozen to go for lazy cooks like me .
